David Beckham, who has yet to start a home game for Real Madrid this season, has resisted signing a contract renewal while he explores his options, which, according to reports in the British press, include a move to the English Premier League or MLS.

Beckham’s contract with Real runs out this summer and the Spanish club, with which he has failed to win a major trophy, is offering a two-year extension.

“I’ve one year left at Real, and maybe two more after that, but things can change in football and the American league does interest me,” Beckham told the BBC. “I want to be part of a country that is passionate about sport. And I’ve got my academy in LA, which is important to me because that is my life after the game.”

The BBC contacted Los Angeles Galaxy president Alexi Lalas about the prospects of Beckham coming to L.A. and Lalas said, “There are thousands of clubs out there that would love to have a player of his caliber. And the Los Angeles Galaxy is certainly one of them.”

If Beckham does leave Real Madrid, his choices in Spain or England may be limited to the middle-of-the-standings clubs, options The Independent speculated would be less appealing to Beckham than a move to Los Angeles or Qatar.
