Roy Lassiter scored in the 62nd minute to put the USA up 2-0 over Costa Rica.
A throw in from the right sideline was headed forward by Ernie Stewart from about 15 yards out, and Alexi Lalas’ sliding shot was deflected by the keeper Barrantes. However, the deflected ball fell to Lassiter, who boomed it into the open net for the goal.
