The U.S. women’s national team beat Australia 3-0 in Canberra on March 5 in the last game of their Australian tour.
The U.S. opened the scoring in the 10th minute, when Brandi Chastain scored on a first-time volley from Tiffeny Milbrett’s free kick. It was Chastain’s second goal in as many games.
Julie Foudy added the second American goal in the 53rd minute. This time Mia Hamm took a corner, and an unmarked Foudy headed home from six yards out.
MIlbrett rounded out the scoring in the 90th minute after a series of one-touch passes between the former Portland striker and current collegiate stars Danielle Fotopoulos and Robin Confer. Milbrett took the final pass from Fotopoulos and pushed it into the net from 10 yards out.
The U.S. outscored Australia 10-1 in the three games.
The match was played at Bruce Stadium in Canberra, a likely venue for the women’s soccer competition at the 2000 Olympics.
Next up for the U.S. women will be their six-game victory tour, which kicks off April 24 against France in Greensboro, N.C.
