Major League Soccer’s competition committee has decided the parameters detailing the role defender Paul Caligiuri will take with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Galaxy has the option to decide when Caligiuri, who recently won his abritration case against MLS, will become a member of the club’s 20-player active roster. Caligiuri is currently part of the Galaxy’s inactive roster.
o If Caligiuri becomes a member of the Galaxy’s 20-player active roster, Los Angeles must make room on the roster, either by trade, release of other players or placement of another player on the inactive roster.
o In addition, the Galaxy must make room under the team’s salary cap. When Caligiuri becomes a member of the active roster, his annual salary will be counted against the Galaxy’s cap at a reduced rate of the salary figure he earned while playing for the Columbus Crew during the 1996 season.
