The Columbus Crew and Ohio State University have agreed to extend The Crew’s lease at Ohio Stadium through the 1998 Major League Soccer season. The extension was contemplated in the original Crew lease, for the 1996 and 1997 MLS seasons, and will assure the team of playing in Ohio Stadium for at least one more season. OSU is currently studying renovations of Ohio Stadium, said Williams, and its related impact on future Buckeye football schedules. Architectural studies for that project are expected to be completed later this summer, and if approved, work would be completed for the 2000 football season and would also impact future Crew seasons after 1998. The contemplated work on the playing field and lower deck would be done after the 1998 football season, he said, so as to accommodate the Crew’s playing needs during the 1998 MLS season.
