Plenty of Fun and Soccer too, headline Richmond Centre’s FanZone

For the third consecutive year, FanZone sponsored by Ukrop’s Super Markets and Coca-Cola and hosted by Soccer America Magazine, returns to the Richmond Centre, December 12-13. The annual event, held during the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championships, is designed to allow the entire Richmond-area population-beyond lucky ticket holders to participate in college soccer’s biggest weekend. The main floor will again be packed full of spectacular, interactive skill pavilions. The ever popular Doritos Dunk-a-Ref, FILA Master-Striker and FILA Dare-Devil Goal provide thrills for players and fans alike. Fan favorites, Guardian of the Goal , Dannon Lean Mean Machine, First Market Bank Heads Up and the SNICKERS Speed Shot also return to add to the fun. Added for this year is the Richmond Kickers Challenge. This is a chance to test your skills and your game against Richmond’s local pro team. Form your own small-sided team and challenge the Kickers in a game of 5 against 5. Friday 9-11pm and Saturday 10-Noon. “FanZone has become the hub of our championship weekend…It allows the entire community to participate in the weekend…” said Tom Yeager chairman of the host committee for the NCAA championships. Over 30 exhibitors will have display booths in both the CoachesZone and the FanZone main hall. Everything from pins, videos, books, to t-shirts and other novelties provide the perfect one-stop shop for that last-minute holiday shopping. Coaches can take advantage of a special $10 weekend pass. It includes unlimited admission the entire weekend. Clinics will be held on Friday and Saturday by some of the game’s marquee coaches. Clinicians include: D.C. United’s Bruce Arena, University of North Carolina women’s coach, Anson Dorrance, Colorado Rapids’ Glenn Myernick and the always entertaining gamesman, Kansas City Wizards’ coach, Ron Newman. The first 250 coaches to enter the CoachesZone on Friday and Saturday will receive KwikGoal practice planners and goalkeeper training books.
