MLS has allocated Colombian midfielder Diego Serna to the Miami Fusion. Serna, 24, has played in the Colombian First Division for the past three years, most recently with Independiente de Medellin, where he scored eight goals in two seasons. He played for Tulua in 1995. “It’s rare to find a young player with such great experience,” said Fusion head coach Carlos “Cacho” Cordoba. “Though he is only 24, he has been playing professional soccer at a high level for more than three years. “Diego has great ball control and the ability to score — abilities that make him a great midfielder.” He will train with the team for the next few days before returning to Colombia to finalize immigration paperwork. Serna joins recent allocations Carlos Valderrama, Marcelo Herrera and Jerry Tamashiro. Tamashiro, a forward from Peru, was assigned to Miami on Jan. 30. The 26-year-old spent last season with Alianza Lima of the Peruvian First Division.

Kozic In, Sullivan Out

The Fusion received Florida International midfielder Alen Kozic as a project-40 allocation on Jan. 30. Kozic was an all-America selection in 1996 when he led FIU to the NCAA final against St. John’s. Miami also announced that MLS was unable to come to terms with forward Christopher Sullivan. He has been removed from the Miami roster and the trade with San Jose that brought him to Miami has been voided. Sullivan is currently playing in the Mexican Second Division.
