The following is the 1998 A-League schedule. The league has expanded from 24 teams to 28, adding the Albuquerque Geckos (the 1997 D3 Pro League champions), the San Francisco Bay Seals (promoted from the D3 Pro League due to their success in the 1997 U.S. Open Cup), the Cincinnati Riverhawks (promoted from the Premier Development Soccer League) and U.S. Pro 40 Select, a team made up of the players participating in Major League Soccer’s Project-40 program. U.S. Pro 40 Select will play each team in the league as part of a season-long tour of away matches. Each team will play 28 games, with the majority of the schedule against conference opponents.
