The USA and Paraguay are tied 1-1 at halftime of their friendly match in San Diego. The U.S. is fielding a lineup consisting of primarily MLS players with David Wagner and Chad Deering, and they have held their own against a Paraguay side featuring many of the country’s top performers. The Paraguayans opened the scoring in the 15th minute, when Miguel Benitez beat Greg Vanney down the right side of the box before slotting a fine pass back to teammate Caniza, whose low shot to the far post left Juergen Sommer no chance. The U.S. equalized just six minutes later through Wolfsburg midfielder Chad Deering. Eric Wynalda took a corner kick, and an unmarked Deering rushed up in the box to head home from ten yards out. There have been no bookings thus far, and Paraguay has made the only substitution — Gonzalez replaced Baez in the 14th minute after the latter suffered a strained groin.
