MLS has obtained promising young Mexican midfielder Juan Pablo Rodriguez and allocated him to the San Jose Clash. “Everyone who has followed the Clash knows how long and how hard we’ve been working to get a Mexican player,” said Clash GM Peter Bridgwater. “Once they’ve seen Juan Pablo, I think we’ll all agree it’s been worth the wait. He’s a brilliant player, and he’s only 18 years old.” Born in August of 1979, Rodriguez will be the youngest international player and the youngest non-Project-40 player in MLS. He scored 11 goals in his first full season with Atlas of the Mexican First Division, and has scored 23 goals in 49 international appearances with the Mexican U-17 and U-20 teams. “I’ve had my eye on Juan Pablo for a long time and I’m very excited about how much he can help us,” said San Jose coach Brian Quinn. “He’s a very creative player and someone who will have an impact at both ends of the field.” Rodriguez is expected to join the Clash after Atlas completes play in the Torneo Verano playoffs.
