U.S. World Cup team Head Coach Steve Sampson’s decision on who to start at forward did not become any clearer today, as the U.S. failed to score for the second time in its last three exhibition matches. Though the U.S. created a number of scoring chances in its 0-0 tie against Scotland, they failed to convert any of them. “I would be more concerned if we weren’t creating chances, but we are,” Sampson said. “It’s a matter of each individual being more composed and more precise in front of the goal.” Sampson said he was pleased with the performance of veteran forward Roy Wegerle of the Tampa Bay Mutiny, who started for the second straight game. Wegerle had one of the best scoring chances of the game when, in the first half, he ball bounced off a Scotland defender and landed at his feet. Wegerle’s shot struck the underside of the crossbar. Eric Wynalda created a scoring chance for himself midway through the second half. He dribbled around a Scotland defender and, while moving to his right, Wynalda drove a shot with his left foot just wide of the far post.
