Greetings from schoolchildren After nearly ten hours of travel, the U.S. World Cup team arrived into Lyon, France, this morning, where it will make final preparations before participating in the World Cup. The U.S. team landed at Lyons’ Satolas Airport at approximately 10:45 a.m. (4:45 a.m. ET) and were received by around 100 people, including the mayor of Saint Jean D’Ardieres and nearly 60 school-aged children dressed in American colors. The airport was decorated with American flags and red, white and blue streamers in honor of the U.S. delegation’s arrival. Following a brief reception in the airport, the delegation took a charter bus to its hotel/headquarters, the Chateau de Pizay. Located approximately 30 minutes north of Lyons and at the base of the French Alps, the Chateau de Pizay is a 17th-century castle nestled in the tiny town of Pizay. The hotel itself lies in the heart of the magnificent Beaujolais country, known for the same wine vineyards that surround the U.S. team hotel. First Practice The U.S. team will leave for its first France-based training session Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The team training will take place at the Stade de Fetan in the town of Trevoux. Scrimmage on Tuesday The U.S. team will scrimmage French second division club Gueugnon next Tuesday (June 9). The match will be played behind closed doors.
