Brazil has defeated the Netherlands 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the teams tied 1-1. Ronaldo took the first penalty and beat Van Der Sar to the keeper’s upper right after the Dutchman dove the wrong way. Frank De Boer then tied the score by drilling his shot into the side netting to Taffarel’s right. On the second kick, Rivaldo’s shot to Van Der Sar’s upper right was good, with the keeper guessing wrong again. Taffarel guessed correctly on Bergkamp’s kick, but was unable to stop it. Emerson scored in the third round with a high blast down the middle, but Taffarel saved Cocu’s soft shot to the keeper’s left. Dunga converted Brazil’s fourth with a shot into the upper corner to Van Der Sar’s right. Taffarel stopped Ronald De Boer’s low shot to his right to give Brazil the 4-2 penalty victory. The defending champions look for their fifth world championship on Sunday against the France-Croatia winner.
