U.S. girls U-20 national team coach Lauren Gregg has named her 18-player roster for this year’s under-21 Nordic Cup, formerly a U-20 tournament, which will take place in the Netherlands. The U.S., the defending Nordic Cup champion, has drawn Finland (Aug. 3), the host country (Aug. 5) and Sweden (Aug. 7) in Group B. The final is slated for Aug. 9. Included on the roster are high school players Susan Bush and Jenni Branam and Notre Dame star Jenny Streiffer, whose golden goal in last year’s tournament won the final 1-0 against Norway. One notable absentee is high school all-America Aly Wagner, a midfielder who tore the ACL in her left knee during non-contact drills at U.S. camp in Portland, Ore., in mid-July. The Santa Clara-bound Wagner, a likely starter on the U.S. team, will miss the fall college season for the Broncos as well as this summer’s USYSA under-18 girls National Cup with her club, the Central Valley Mercury.
