Both Manchester United and Arsenal moved on to the second round of the Champions League Wednesday after fellow EPL clubs Chelsea and Liverpool secured passage the day before. The English were followed into the round of 16 by three Spanish clubs (Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Valencia), three Italian clubs (Inter Milan, AS Roma and AC Milan), two French clubs (Lille and Olympique Lyonnais), German giant Bayern Munich, Dutch champion PSV Eindhoven, Portuguese champ FC Porto and Celtic, the champion of Scotland. First-place teams will be drawn against second-place teams during the draw on Dec. 15. Man United came from behind yesterday to beat Benfica, 3-1, and earn its spot at the top of Group F. Nemenja Vidic equalized for the Red Devils seconds ahead of halftime before Ryan Giggs headed home a second after 61 minutes. Louis Saha put the game beyond doubt with a third 15 minutes from time. Celtic managed to lose, 3-1, away to FC Copenhagen, which solidified United’s place at the top of the group. In Group G, Arsenal was equally lucky to finish first after drawing 0-0 away to Porto.
