The Milwaukee Rampage has signed former Miami Fusion coach Carlos “Cacho” Cordoba to a three-year contract as the team’s head coach. It is a homecoming for “Cacho”, who coached the Rampage in 1995, leading the team to a 17-3 record and a berth in the USISL “Sizzlin’ Nine” finals before leaving to join the Dallas Burn as an assistant coach. Cordoba assisted Dave Dir for two seasons in Dallas, and then became the first coach of the expansion Miami Fusion, where he compiled an 8-11 record before being replaced by Ivo Wortmann July 24. Cordoba replaces Bob Gansler, whose contract expired after the 1998 season. Gansler led the Rampage to the 1997 A-League title and his teams had a record of 58-34 during his three seasons. “I’ll be very honest — I’m very happy to be back home,” said Cordoba, who spent a total of five years in Milwaukee as a player (with the NPSL’s Wave) and coach from 1991-96. “The Rampage has great owners, a great front office, great fans and excellent players. I understand I have big shoes to fill, but I’m very confident in my abilities and I’m excited to be back.”
