U.S. national team veteran Cobi Jones, who led the Los Angeles Galaxy to the best record in Major League Soccer in 1998, will join the San Jose Clash for its upcoming game against reigning Mexican League champion Deportivo Toluca at Spartan Stadium Nov. 18. “Having Cobi play up front with Eric (Wynalda, Clash forward and Jones’ high school and U.S. teammate) will give us a chance to create a lot of quality chances,” Quinn said. “I’m sure the fans will enjoy the combination.” Joining Jones as “guest stars” for San Jose will be Galaxy midfielder Clint Mathis, Miami Fusion defender Leo Cullen and MetroStars defender Mike Petke. Quinn has only nine of his Clash players available for the game, because of injuries, Project-40 commitments and recent waivers. “With these four players, and maybe a couple of more we’ll add later in the week, we’ll have a very competitive, exciting side to challenge Toluca,” Quinn said. “They’re the best team in Mexico right now, but I think it will be a very exciting game.” Toluca is leading the Mexican League again this season, having gone undefeated in its past 14 games.
