Major League Soccer’s second group of Project-40 players will leave the U.S. on Nov. 3 to begin four weeks of overseas training with legendary Italian powerhouse AC Milan. The five players — goalkeeper Tim Howard (MetroStars), midfielders Carlos Parra (Miami) and Joey DiGiamarino (Colorado) and forwards Josh Wolff (Chicago) and Jamar Beasley (New England) — will train with AC Milan’s full and reserve teams during November before meeting fellow Project-40 teammates and U.S. Pro-40 Select Head Coach Lothar Osiander on December 2 in Manchester, England for matches against other Division I reserve teams in England. The players will return home after the tour on December 20. Chicago Fire forward Josh Wolff will travel to Milan following the U.S. national team’s match against Australia on Friday, November 6. “This is going to be such an incredible experience to be training with players I’ve looked up to all my life,” said Project-40 veteran Carlos Parra. “I can’t wait to reunite with Roberto Donadoni. He has made such an impact on my style of play, both while I was with the MetroStars and even now.” The offseason training regimen is an integral part of MLS’ and U.S. Soccer’s initiative for America’s top young players to develop their game via exposure to the international soccer community. AC Milan joins world-renowned clubs Sunderland (English First Division), Glasgow Rangers (Scottish Premier Division), and Bayer Leverkusen (German Bundesliga) as the hosts for the Project-40 venture. Project-40 members Ubusuku Abukusumo (Columbus), Jose Botello (Los Angeles), Andy Kirk (San Jose) and Brian West (Columbus) will be assigned to international clubs in the near future.
