It looks like DaMarcus Beasley will return to Dutch champion PSV Eindhoven after Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce made it clear he’ll be clearing house in the offseason. The on-loan American midfielder is likely to join a long list of players who failed to earn a permanent stay in Pearce’s revolving-door clubhouse. Last year’s temps, Kiki Musampa and Albert Riera, returned to the Netherlands and Spain, respectively, while Tunisian international Hatem Trabelsi, signed as a free agent from Ajax, will be released.
The Manchester Evening News points out that both Beasley and Trabelsi scored important goals for City this season, but overall, the team’s strike-rate was absolutely terrible, failing to score in its last eight league home matches. As a result, several permanent players are also expected to get the axe, including Trevor Sinclair, the useless Bernardo Corradi, Georgios Samaras and the querulous Joey Barton, who’s expected to fetch a hefty price tag at least.
“The directors have made it clear that there is money available for me,” Pearce said. “I have to give the side and the squad more cutting edge; there is no hidden secret there. We have to do the best job we possibly can in the transfer market.”
