The winter transfer season of discontent continues as Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho became the latest high-profile manager to complain about his current group of players. The brash Mourinho, however, went so far as to publicly criticize the team’s upper management for its failure to release the necessary funds to help him bolster his side for the crucial second half of the season. BBC reports that Mourinho’s fallout with Roman Abramovich is such that he may soon be on his way out at Stamford Bridge. “I have asked for players and it’s not my choice that no one is coming,” Mourinho said following Wednesday’s shock 1-1 Carling Cup semifinal draw against the minnows from High Wycombe. The Portuguese manager has been outspoken this season about his under-performing stars, though after the Wycombe draw-the club’s fourth in a row and definitely its most embarrassing-he surprisingly left his players alone, shifting criticism instead to the men upstairs. “It’s not my club — I’m just the manager,” Mourinho said sulkily. “My position is not important. Chelsea is what is important, not me.” Over the past two and a half seasons, Mourinho has been able to buy whomever he pleased, although the number of players who have come in for big money and then departed with lower valuations are astonishing. It looks as though Abramovich has put the stop on Mourinho’s reckless spending forcing him to make due with what he has. “The information I have is that nobody is coming and if that’s the case then nobody is leaving,” the Chelsea manager complained Wednesday. His defense looks particularly patchy with John Terry still injured and Khalid Boulahrouz possibly out for the rest of the season.
