Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti is reportedly keen on adding coveted West Ham striker Carlos Tevez to his vast cabinet of Argentine superstars. “It’s true,” Moratti said on Tuesday. “We really like the player. He has the qualities and the character we need.”

Tevez, of course, has spent just one controversial season at West Ham, where the legality of his transfer to the club from Brazilian giant Corinthians has came under considerable scrutiny from both the English Premier League and other clubs. FIFA is still investigating the matter. Either way, the manner of his transfer certainly wasn’t Tevez’s fault, and Inter Milan is said to be readying a deal worth nearly $50 million, according to the Guardian, which said the departures of Adriano and Alvaro Recoba would likely free up funds.

Tevez, practicing with Argentina for the Copa America, admitted that he likes the idea of playing on a team with so many of his countrymen — the Milan club already has eight. “I know there will be some meetings and some discussions, but I really don’t know if there is anything official yet,” the 23-year-old said. The player’s departure looks a virtual certainty given his age, his performances for West Ham toward the end of last season, and his open admission of wanting a new challenge. Tevez has also reportedly stopped taking English lessons.
