Speculation is rife in England that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry will be heading to the Nou Camp this summer, possibly in exchange for Samuel Eto’o, while Chelsea’s Andriy Shevchenko is close to making a shocking return to European Champion AC Milan, the club that sold him to the Blues for nearly $60 million just last season.
Arsenal fans will be saddened to hear that Manager Arsene Wenger has paved the way for Henry’s departure by entering negotiations with Barcelona finance director Ferran Soriano. Wenger wants roughly $40 million for the 29-year-old Frenchman or an exchange for Eto’o, but Barca would likely require an additional fee for the Cameroonian’s services. Despite noted problems with Coach Frank Rijkaard and Brazilian teammate Ronaldinho, Eto’o has consistently said he wants to stay at Barcelona. A close friend of Henry, Eto’o is keen to play alongside him next season.
AC Milan has also been eyeing the Barcelona striker, but chairman Silvio Berlusconi says he would prefer to see Chelsea’s Andriy Shevchenko return to Milan, where he spent the best years of his career. “I consider Sheva as my son,” Berlusconi said, emphasizing that the unhappy Chelsea player wants to return. The former Italian Prime Minister revealed that Adriano Galliani, the club’s vice president, said Milan has an “80 percent chance” of re-signing the Ukrainian.
