Getafe coach Bernd Schuster is expected to be unveiled next week as the new coach of Real Madrid, Merengues President Ramon Calderon told Spanish radio on Thursday. “I think he [Schuster] has sorted out his contract and has to pay compensation, but the logical thing is that he will be the next coach of Real Madrid.” Calderon said.
In addition to a new coach, Calderon said Real would make “two or three new signings” next week. One of these could be Kaka: “From what I’ve been told, he wants to come,” Calderon said, but the Brazilian’s transfer may come down to whether he’s prepared to disappoint Milan President Silvio Berlusconi and the club’s loyal fans. The Real president added that Arsenal’s Jose Antonio Reyes, whose two goals on the final day of the season secured Real’s La Liga title, would now sign a permanent deal. Barca’s Javier Saviola, Roma’s Christian Chivu and Chelsea’s Arjen Robben have all also been linked with the Spanish champion.
Getafe’s Schuster, a former Real Madrid player, has long been linked with a move to the Bernabeu. Early in the year, when former coach Fabio Capello’s job was under fire, Schuster was widely tipped as the man to replace him. In fact, reports claim that the German had even signed a pre-contract agreement whereby either party would be compensated $2 million if the other decided to back out of the deal. Real vehemently denied any agreement, while Getafe has threatened to sue. If Schuster does become Real coach, we may never know whether such a contract existed.
