It’s looking quite possible that the L.A. Galaxy’s new signing David Beckham will not be making his debut against Chelsea at the Home Depot on Saturday due to an injury sustained at the end of last season while playing for Real Madrid and England. Beckham did not train with the MLS team on Monday, and coach Frank Yallop wasn’t yet convinced he’d be ready to make his long-awaited debut against Chelsea this weekend. The 32-year-old trained for 45 minutes apart from the rest of the squad with trainer Ivan Pierra or injured teammate Chris Albright.

Meanwhile, Beckham’s former Real Madrid coach, could be making his way to MLS, although the report didn’t mention where. “They have contacted me. However, I must think about it,” Capello told Italian sports journal La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It would be a new experience that would intrigue me, not for the money but to see if anyone could make American soccer take off.”

Of course, the immediate speculation is that Capello could replace Yallop, whose Galaxy is in second-to-last place in the Western Conference halfway into the season. “I hope it’s not here,” Yallop said. “It’s nice to know that he’s interested in coming over. He’s a very, very good manager and coach. It’ll be good if we can get him in this country.” The Los Angeles Times report also mentioned the possibility of Capello being imported for the position of technical director for all U.S. national teams.
