Following his team’s remarkable 3-0 Champions League win against Olympique Lyon, American winger DaMarcus Beasley declared, “Bring on Barcelona!” Beasley has every right to be in bullish mood following Glasgow Rangers brilliant away win, as he played an instrumental part in dismantling the French champion, assisting the first goal and scoring the third. With two wins, Rangers is in second in Group E, tied on points with leader Barcelona, which has a superior goal difference.
In an interview with the Evening Standard, Beasley said Rangers is looking forward to consecutive contests against the Spanish giant. “Barcelona are a world-class side and, for me, it’s a step up again from the two teams we have faced,” he said. “I don’t think we are going to be able to sneak up on anyone now after last night — but let’s go into the Barca game and see what happens.
As the American points out, Rangers is already close to qualifying for the round of 16. A win in either of the next two games would put the Scottish club very close to qualification. “We’ll set ourselves up and try to get something from the game,” he said. “To be honest, it’s just such a fantastic match for everyone at Rangers to have, we can’t wait.” As for the impressive win, “We had a game plan and we were confident we could get something. But 3-0, in all honesty, was way beyond anything we could have hoped for.”
