[NEW PROGRAM] Utah currently has no NCAA programs that sponsor varsity men’s soccer, but that should change when Division II Dixie State College adds a men’s soccer program in 2008.

The move is contingent upon final budget reviews that will occur in April.

A search for a head coach should begin in January. Dixie State will play teams in the Pacific West Conference, which includes D2 teams from California, Arizona and Hawaii.

BYU has a men’s team that plays in the PDL, and other schools offer men’s soccer as a club sport. NAIA school Westminster offers men’s soccer.

Dixie State, located in St. George, was for many years a junior college. The Utah legislature granted Baccalaureate degree status in 2000.

Dixie State was the NJCAA women’s soccer champion in 2000 and now offers women’s soccer at the D2 level.
