The L.A. Times’ Grahame L. Jones says the Los Angeles Galaxy should have a new coach by the end of the month, and probably before the team leaves on a two-game trip to Australia and New Zealand following the Thanksgiving Day holiday. The Galaxy isn’t naming any names, but Jones believes Manchester United assistant Carlos Queiroz is a strong possibility.

“Nothing is out of the realm of possibility,” Galaxy GM Alexi Lalas said. “I think we’ve demonstrated that over the last year. We would certainly look to use this opportunity to bring in somebody who is going to have an impact certainly on the Galaxy but also on the league and the sport in many of the same ways that David Beckham did.”

Cue fanciful visions of a Jose Mourinho, Fabio Capello or a Juergen Klinsmann taking the helm. Klinsmann, a Southern California resident, might be keen to return to coaching, but we know he won’t take any job where he’s not in complete control. Quieroz, however, has been in involved with Beckham at two separate teams (Manchester United and Real Madrid), has the kind of international experience Lalas speaks of, and was coach of the former MetroStars in 1996. Incidentally, Bruce Arena, who just stepped down as coach of the New York Red Bulls, is not considered a candidate for the job.
