Defending champion Houston Dynamo, like other MLS clubs, is on the prowl for a suitable location on which to build a new practice facility. The Houston Chronicle reports that team officials are interested in renovating Gus Wortham Park, a public golf course situated in a heavily Latino area, into the grounds for a new soccer-oriented sports complex, where the Dynamo’s teams would also practice. The Dynamo, which also wants a new stadium, is said to be requesting the area as a condition for its remaining in Houston.

The Chronicle says several suburban cities are examining proposals to lure the Dynamo. Andy Icken, planning and development director with the Houston’s Public Works and Engineering Department, said the city wants to present a package to the Dynamo within a month in hopes of keeping the team from going to the suburbs.

The proposed sports complex in Gus Wortham Park would spell the end of golf in the area, though the complex would include public baseball and soccer fields.
