ESPN’s Phil Ball says that if Dimitar Berbatov moves from Tottenham to Chelsea in the EPL, the move would create a ripple effect across Spain. The result would be “overflowing coffers at White Hart Lane,” which means Tottenham manager Juande Ramos would then be able to afford former player Dani Alves of Sevilla.
Ramos has also said he’s like to be reunited with Sevilla striker Freddy Kanoute, but Kanoute will be going nowhere if Ramos manages to prise David Villa away from Valencia, a team in serious decline. Chelsea is also interested in Villa, but Berbatov and Bolton’s Nicolas Anelka are at the top of Chelsea manager Avram Grant’s list. The Blues just had a bid for Anelka rejected Monday, by the way.
Other La Liga misfits that could be ripe for a transfer include Real Madrid’s Javier Saviola, Royston Drenthe and Roberto Soldado. Saviola could move to Bolton if Anelka heads to Chelsea, while other rumors have also pegged Drenthe and Soldado to possible moves to Tottenham.
