As the Wizards begin training for the 2008 MLS season, The Kansas City Star’s Bob Luder asks the pertinent question: who’s going to score the goals? Top scorer Eddie Johnson has moved to Fulham, Yura Movsisyan was traded to Real Salt Lake late last summer, attacking midfielder Davy Arnaud has fractured his right knee and won’t be back until some time this summer, and Scott Sealy continues to have problems with his quadriceps. Meanwhile, the Wizards drafted no forwards during the MLS Super Draft, nor have any been signed in the offseason so far.
Not to fear, says Kansas City coach Curt Onalfo, more scoring help is on the way — unsurprisingly, it comes from South America. Argentine forward Eloy Colombano has just been added to the squad and will begin training in Florida next week. Colombian striker Ivan Trujillo, who recently scored six goals in one month for Colombian side Deportivo Cali, will soon join him, pending the final authorization of his paperwork. Onalfo adds that playmaker Carlos Marinelli will be moved up higher in midfield this season to become a greater scoring threat.
