[AMERICANS ABROAD] Brad Friedel and Kasey Keller, once rivals for the U.S. national team goalkeeping spot, faced off when Blackburn and Fulham met on Saturday. The result was satisfactory for neither.

For Keller and Fulham, for which Americans Clint Dempsey, Brian McBride and Eddie Johnson also saw action while Carlos Bocanegra stayed on the bench, the 1-1 tie did little to help its battle against relegation.

In second-to-last place, Fulham is six points deep in the relegation zone.

Seventh-place Blackburn, on the other hand, is fighting for a UEFA Cup and gained no ground with the point.

Still, getting a tie on a late equalizer by Jimmy Bullard did keep alive some hopes of Fulham avoiding the drop.

Keller, who was making his first appearance since October, looked shaky in the first half according to British media reports, was beaten on a Morten Gamst Pedersen header.

Dempsey, who started and was replaced in the 66th minute by McBride, could have won a penalty kick after a foul from André Ooijer but was denied by the referee. Dempsey also failed to connect after a rebound.

Johnson hit the outside of the post on his best effort.
