The on again, off again transfer saga of former Metrostars standout Amado Guevara to Toronto FC appears to be on again — for good, according to Soccer By Ives. Honduran newspaper La Tribuna reported on Monday that Guevara has played his last game for Motagua and appears ready to return to MLS. “I don’t know if in four years when my contract with Toronto expires if I will still want to play,” Guevara told the paper when asked if he might return to Motagua for the fifth time in his career.
For Toronto, adding Guevara is a good, necessary move, as the Canadian club, once again last in MLS, sorely needs a quality attacking midfielder. Guevara, 31, was the MLS MVP in 2004 with the Metrostars.
The deal was supposedly dead in mid-March, when it was believed that Motagua officials wanted too high a transfer price for the player, but sources tell SBI that those reports were false and that Toronto, MLS and Guevara are currently hammering out the final details of deal.
