[UEFA CUP] Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg will meet in the final of the UEFA Cup on May 14 in Manchester after pulling upsets on Thursday. Rangers beat Fiorentina, 4-2, in a shootout after the second leg, like the first, ended in a 0-0 tie. Zenit beat Bayern, 4-0, at home to advance, 5-1, on aggregate.

With American DaMarcus Beasley and five other regulars out injured, Rangers was the heavy underdog against Fiorentina. One of the stars who did battle back from and injury and played was former University of Evansville star David Weir, an inspirational leader for Rangers who turns 38 the day before the final.

In Zenit's win over Bayern, Pavel Pogrebniak scored twice but picked up a yellow card that will keep him out of the final. Konstatin Zurianov and Viktor Faitzulin also scored for the Russian club, which reached its first-ever European final with the win.
