The U.S. Soccer Foundation announced the distribution of $2 million in funds to 52 groups in 24 states and the District of Columbia as part of its 12th annual grants program.
This year’s program was highlighted by the establishment of “Mooch” Myernick Fund to honor the life, career and years of distinguished service of coach Glenn “Mooch” Myernick, who died late last year. Proceeds from the Mooch Myernick Fund were distributed to three programs in urban areas: the Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy (Chicago), Think Detroit PAL (Detroit) and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (Flushing, N.Y.)
Additionally, the U.S. Soccer Foundation has also finalized the establishment of the David Charles Vanole Memorial Fund to honor the life and career of David Vanole, who passed away at the age of 43 in January. Proceeds from the endowment will be distributed to soccer clubs and organizations in urban areas to help create and sustain soccer opportunities for underserved children, with an emphasis on groups in the Southern California region, where Vanole’s career started.
