It’s hard to find anyone outside of MLS headquarters who cares passionately about the league’s All-Star selection. So congratulations to the Chicago Fire’s Jon Busch for his entertaining broadsides at All-Star team coach Steve Nicol for failing to include the league’s stat-topping goalkeeper as one of his picks. Nicol opted for Houston’s Canadian stopper Pat Onstad as back-up to first choice Matt Reis.

“Next time I need to send Nicol a care package before he makes the decision,” Busch told Luis Arroyave. “I should find out what kind of wine he likes.” He was only joking of course. Then, not joking quite so much, he added, “I’m definitely bummed a little bit. Not just for myself, but for the organization. I would have loved to been there and represent Baky [Soumare], Wilman [Conde] and the guys who have been taking care of me.” In other words: it’s not about me, it’s about the team.

Busch added that his team would use this as motivation for future meetings with the New England Revolution: “I think Steve is a good coach. But we’ll keep this in mind next time we play him.” Just joking. Kind of.
