David Beckham was “very close” to joining AC Milan instead of the L.A. Galaxy, he said in an interview with the U.K.-based soccer monthly. But although he “thought the opportunity through seriously…things took a different course.”

Any other revelations? The player reiterated that he is not in California because of Hollywood, and that he has “no acting ambitions.” He also claimed that the Galaxy “would hold their own with quite a few teams in the Premier League.” Though he didn’t name names. Hull City, anyone?

Beckham still wants to play for England at the 2010 World Cup, and doesn’t see any problem in being prepared for such a tournament at the age of 35 by playing in MLS. “Fitness levels are the same and my game doesn’t change much — it’s still about going wide and getting the ball into the penalty box. If you can do that well then the venue is immaterial.”
