New England Revolution forward Steve Ralston will miss 6-8 weeks after breaking his right fibula (calf bone) in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the Kansas City Wizards, reports Monique Walker. The earliest possible return would be the MLS Cup final November 23, assuming the Revs progress that far.

The injury was caused by a late tackle from the Wizards’ forward Hercules Gomez, and will be reviewed by MLS for possible disciplinary action.

“He’s the guy we want to be going forward and joining up with the forwards,” said Revs’ coach Steve Nicol. “The truth is we don’t have anybody else to play that, so when you lose him, it changes drastically what you’re capable of.” Teammate Jay Heaps described Ralston’s injury as “a disheartening loss.”

Ralston is the team’s statistical leader with eight goals and seven assists from 21 games (20 starts).
