[ITALY] AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti says David Beckham is “still not in form” but that the Los Angeles Galaxy loan player could see Italian Serie A action Sunday when the Rossoneri take on Roma (TV: 2:30 pm ET, Fox Soccer Channel & Fox Sports en Espanol).
Beckham is on a three-month loan from the Galaxy, which he’s scheduled to rejoin for the start of the 2009 MLS season. He played the first half in a friendly against Hamburg SV on Tuesday in a defensive midfield role and Ancelotti hinted he could come off the bench on Sunday.
“He’s still not in form, but his contribution could be useful,” said. “He has dynamism, tactical intelligence and skill. He plays for the team and is always involved.”
“You could see that he wants to play and win with us,” Milan’s Brazilian midfielder Ronaldinho said. “Simplicity is his best weapon, and with desire you can accomplish a great deal. Milan is not a team of galacticos, it’s a team with a lot of great players that know how to sacrifice themselves.”
An injury to midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, out for six months following knee surgery, left open a spot in the defensive midfield for Beckham, better known for delivering crosses.
