As DaMarcus Beasley is unhappy with his lack of playing time at Glasgow Rangers, he could do worse than revive his club career in Los Angeles, writes Grahame L Jones. Either at the Galaxy or at Chivas USA.
A move to the Galaxy would reunite him with former national team coach Bruce Arena , who gave him his first caps for the U.S. playing alongside Landon Donovan. Beasley and Donovan have a long and successful history playing together that goes back to a fourth-place finish with the U-17 team at the 1999 World Cup in New Zealand. Of course it would need some creative work with the salary cap, and assumes that Donovan’s loan move to Bayern Munich doesn’t become permanent, which looks a very big "if" right now.
If that doesn’t work out, Beasley could think about a move to Chivas USA as a replacement for Francisco Mendoza, who has just returned to Guadalajara after four seasons in L.A. “Beasley is the same sort of player, quick and inventive, and with a better goalscoring touch,” writes Jones. “Like Mendoza, he can fill in at left back as well as play left midfield.” Chivas has not yet acquired a designated player, “but Beasley would be worth a Donovan-type investment.”
