[AMERICANS ABROAD] U.S. Olympian Jozy Altidore, who moved from the New York Red Bulls to the Spanish La Liga’s Villarreal last summer, is going on loan to Spanish second division leader Xerez.

Altidore appeared six games (two starts) and scored one goal for fourth place Villarreal.

“This is a good opportunity for me because I will be able to get more playing time, which will help me adapt to this country and continue to develop my career,” Altidore said on Villarreal’s Web site.

Xerez holds a three-point lead over Tenerife in Spain’s second division standings.

Altodore did not suit up for Xerez’s 2-0 win over Alicante on Sunday.
