No charges have been filed, but Seattle Sounders FC newcomer and MLS March Player of the Month Fredy Montero is the subject of a police investigation after being accused of stalking, according to the Seattle P-I, which cites two law enforcement sources. The 21-year-old Colombian had been the league's best and brightest on-field story so far in this 14th season of MLS after scoring three goals in the expansion club's first two games.

An unidentified 23-year-old woman filed a pair of complaints with Seattle-area law enforcement, first a claim made to the Bellevue Police Department that on March 22 Montero had sexually assaulted her, and then on March 31 a call to the King County Sheriff's office in which she said she saw Montero in a car near her home in Sammamish. She said Montero was in the passenger seat and that the "driver smiled in her direction," according to a separate Seattle P-I article.

"No charges have been filed against Montero; jail reports show no record of any bookings involving Montero. King County Sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said that after preliminary investigation, it appears that no crime had been committed on March 31." wrote the Seattle P-I.

Bellevue Police Department spokesman Greg Grannis said the department is investigating a March 22 sexual assault but declined to confirm whether Montero is under investigation. "We have a case number, and it's an open investigation," Grannis said. "It has not gotten far enough to where charges were filed yet." A Sounders spokesman said Montero did not make the Sounders' trip to play at Toronto on Saturday because of an illness.
