The expansion Seattle Sounders FC captured their third game of the 2009 season with a 2-0 win at Toronto FC on Saturday, but the excitement of another big victory was tempered by the absence of young Colombian star Fredy Montero, who remained in Seattle because of an illness, according to the team. The game came two days after a report by the (web-only) Seattle Press-Intelligencer in which it stated Montero was a subject being investigated regarding two sexual assault cases.

In a police report taken Tuesday, a woman said she was being stalked, though the police said it appeared to be a coincidence he was in her neighborhood. This followed allegations of sexual assaults that took place on March 15 and March 22.

“While we know firsthand of the stress and frustration this situation has caused,” general manager Adrian Hanauer told the Seattle Times, “we have counseled Fredy, his family and associates to have faith in our system of law and to allow due process.”
