[WORLD CUP 2010 QUALIFYING] With its bid to return to the World Cup finals in jeopardy, Iran has fired Coach Ali Daei and brought back former coach Mohammad Mayelikohan.
The move followed Iran’s shock 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia on March 28 that dropped Iran into fourth place in Group 2 behind South Korea, North Korea and Saudi Arabia.
Mayelikohan previously held the post in 1995-97. Daei holds the world record with 109 goals in 148 international appearances.
