In these times, “the audacity of hope” is a term that you most likely connect with a man named Obama, but MLSnet.com’s Steve Davis makes a case that it’s that same dare-to-dream confidence that helps soccer players who possess it “more likely to come shining through” and that more often that not, “bold, aggressive action wins the day” over its “timid and indecisive” cousin.

Recapping Week 4 MLS action, Davis shows us how “hope matters,” pointing to improbable but equally impressive individual efforts from the likes of Bobby Convey, Chris Rolfe, Davy Arnaud and a trio of Argentines in Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Pablo Ricchetti and Javier Morales, that led their respective teams to good results on the weekend.

From Convey’s hard-charging run from left back to score, to Rolfe and Arnaud blasting long-range bombs, to Schelotto’s pivot-and-fire, to Ricchetti’s quick back-heel flick, to Morales’ squeezing between two D.C. defenders where he “took a quick touch and lashed an effort toward net,” all were examples of how when hope springs eternal, success usually isn’t far behind.
