Washington fans were hoping that the return of Christian Gomez would reignite D.C. United, which won one MLS Cup and two Supporters’ Shields during the Argentine’s first stint with the club but failed to make the playoffs without him in 2008.
But the Argentine has yet to rediscover the form that made him at MLS MVP, and D.C. United has picked up only five points in its first four games.
“He’s getting there, but he’s not 100 percent yet,” United coach Tom Soehn said. “When Christian is at his best, you are going to see him pull away from guys more. We haven’t seen enough of that yet. He knows it and we are working to get him there.”
