The Dallas Texans Red made history when they became the first club to win three titles in the same year at the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup, capturing the U-19, U-14 and U-13 titles at this year’s 30th edition of the tournament. The surprise was the Santa Clara (Calif.) Sporting’s run to the championship in the U-15 division.
The Texans had to get past a pair of U-18 academy rivals to win the U-19 title. They beat the FC Dallas Juniors, 1-0, in the semifinals and trounced Solar, 4-0, on goals by Aaron Reifschneider, Conor Doyle, Zachery Barnes and Will Diebold in the final.
The Texans edged the Irvine (Calif.) SC Strikers, 5-4, in a shootout after their U-14 final ended in a 1-1 tie.
Erick Chapa‘s goal gave the Texans the U-13 title with a 1-0 win over West Coast FC in the final. The Texans’ U-13s included Emerson Hyndman, the grandson of FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman who has attracted the interest of English Premier League teams.
The U-14 and U-13 teams were both coached by Marcio Leite.
Santa Clara got goals from Julio Morales and Guillermo Talancon to beat LAFC Chelsea FC, 2-0, in the final. It finished the tournament with a goal margin of 14-1.
The other American champion at the Dallas Cup was Real So Cal White, which defeated Southern California rival Arsenal FC, 4-2, in a shootout after the U-16 final ended in a 2-2 tie.
Sao Paulo beat the Vancouver Whitecaps, 4-0, to become the first team to win three Super Group title.
Monterrey of Mexico beat the Lonestars Red of Austin, Texas, 1-0, to capture the U-17 championship.
