Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand could be available for next week’s Champions League semifinal at Arsenal. Tests cleared the center back of a cracked rib and serious injury.

“It’s good news with Rio – it is not a cracked bone,” said United head coach Alex Ferguson, whose team beat Arsenal, 1-0, in the first leg. “He had a bit of bruising on the lung, which was why he was coughing up blood, but there has been nothing since then. Hopefully, we can get him ready for Tuesday. He seems almost back to normal.”

In preparation for Tuesday’s Champions League match, Ferdinand will not be risked in the Premier League leader’s match at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
