Although the Houston Dynamo beat the Revolution in two consecutive MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007, the team had never beaten the Revs in a regular-season game until a 2-0 victory on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

“It was probably our most consistent and all-around performance [of the year],” Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear said. “I still go back to San Jose. We played some great soccer that night, but defensively, we weren’t on top of it. Tonight was our best, most consistent all-around performance of the year.”

Despite the Dynamo’s dominating performance, it still needed some luck to get the result. Midfielder Stuart Holden grabbed the game’s opening goal when his a shot rolled through the legs of Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis. Dynamo striker Brian Ching then scored a more resounding second goal, heading home a Brad Davis corner kick. With the result, Houston nabbed a crucial three points in its attempt to stay close behind Western Conference leaders Chivas USA.
