After Tuesday's loss to Manchester United in the Champions League semifinal, Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor urged his club to spend big money on top signings at the end of the season or risk increasing its trophy-less spell.
"I think we have taken a step backward," Adebayor is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail. "Not only me, but the team. We need some players. We had [Aliaksandr] Hleb gone to Barcelona, [Mathieu] Flamini gone to Milan … The team is quite young and we have tried to make the best of everything. Don't forget, I was injured three times this season. At the beginning of the season it was quite difficult but we have showed we have passed that moment. Now what are we going to achieve next season. That's what we have to fight for."
Adebayor, who has been linked with a summer move to Milan, also claimed that he is committed to Arsenal and winning the trophies that the club originally promised. The Gunners have not won a competition since their FA Cup triumph over Manchester United in the 2004/05 season.
