It only seems like Anthony Wallace has been with FC Dallas for a long time. Now in his third MLS season, Wallace is still only 20 years of age.
The ninth overall pick in the 2007 SuperDraft, Wallace has yet to play a single minute with FCD’s first unit this season. But he is making a strong case on the practice fields to change this. Last week, FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman suggested that Wallace was close to earning a start at left back.
Wallace, a mainstay on the U-20 U.S. team, missed much of preseason due to his duties with the national team. Wallace admits that missing these practices set him behind the curve heading into his third professional campaign, but he is now ready to make an impact on the first team. “I’m definitely starting to feel like my old self again,” Wallace said. “The confidence is definitely back and it’s there. I have been playing pretty well in the last two weeks and I’m really looking to keep on pushing that.” Wallace might get his first start this weekend when FCD hosts the Seattle Sounders FC.
